This guide is provided for informational purposes only. If you choose to use this guide for anything more than information, you do so "At Your Own Risk".

  • If you start to get a BSOD or an NTLDR missing error when you attempt to boot Windows XP the fix may be as simple as running check disk from your XP bootable CD.
  • This guide requires a Windows XP bootable CD.

Booting up

  • Place your CD in the drive and power on your PC.
  • When you see "press any key to boot from CD", hit any key and Windows setup should start

Entering Recover Console

  • When prompted, press R for repair

  • When the check disk completes reboot your PC

Notes

  • If your blue screen remains after the check disk completes you might be looking at a more serious issue related to hardware. In most cases, for blue screens that occur after an XP crash this process has resolved the issue for me.
