I have owned a Samsung i760 on Verizons network for almost 2 years now. I have read quite a few guides on how to install and allow Windows mobile ICS on the devices but the i760 guides always seem to be lacking. It's actually very simple to enable ICS on a i760. I just re-enabled it in preparation for a road trip.

My Current Phone setup

  • Samsung i760 (08.01 - check under your battery for your version)
  • Windows mobile 6.1
  • There is no guarantee that this will work for you. As with every guide on freenerd.net, if you choose to use the information provided here for anything other than educational purposes, it's at your own risk.

How to install ICS

  • Download the ICSinstall.cab file for windows mobile. I can't link it direct from this site as I own no rights to the software, but google the text below and you'll find what you are looking for.

  • Copy and paste text exactly as shown
download+"ICSinstall.cab"

  • Copy the ICSinstall.cab file to your mobile device

  • Run the ICSinstall.cab file and once installed, reboot your phone
    • I received a warning about the software not being for my version of the OS here, ICS still worked for me once I rebooted.

  • Download and install the i760 modem drivers for you phone. These can be found on Samsungs website.
    • I had to use firefox to get the driver download to work, in IE I got page can't be displayed errors.

  • Install the modem drivers on your computer
    • You may be prompted for a reboot
  • Connect the cable from your phone to your computer

  • Click Start > Programs > ICS Share

  • Make sure you have USB and Broadband as the two options
    • This is possible over bluetooth however I do not use it that way due to the faster battery draw that occurs. Use the USB cable and you'll have a longer connection life with your phone as a modem. If your laptop passes enough voltage over USB the i760 can maintain the battery charge much, much longer

  • Click connect. The phone will take some time to connect, but once connected you'll have internet access on your laptop or PC.
